David Hatcher Dothan, AL | In 1962,the US Army contracted with three firms (Bell,Hughes,Hiller)to provide 5 aircraft each for what was to be the Armys Light Observation Helicopter "LOH" pronounced Loach. The OH4 was Bells entry, which Bell called their Model 206. I only assume that serial number 1 and 2 were the US registered experimental airframes (N73999 and N73917) The airframes provided the Army for evaluation are 62-4201,62-4203,and 62-4205. Why 62-4202 and 62-4204 were "skipped" is unknown. 62-4201 is in non display storage at the Army Aviation Museum, Fort Rucker and has its data plate intact which bears the Bell Model 206, Serial Number 4 and customers Model OH-4A, Serial Number 62-2401. The whereabouts or disposition of the others are unknown. So where is serial number 3? Beats me. 11/30/2006 @ 11:38 [ref: 14881] |
Joe DiCarlo Chamblee, GA | This aircraft sure looks like a Grumman Mohawk. 09/20/2006 @ 06:13 [ref: 14234] |
