The Royal Navy acquired 26 SBW-1 Helldivers for evaluation (serials:JW100-JW125). Upon completion of training at NAS Brunswick (ME)the aircraft were loaded on to the aircraft carrier HMS Arbiter at NAS Norfolk for transit to the UK. They were initially assigned to No.1820 Sqdn and there was limited use by Nos. 700 and 778 Sqdns. Due to numerous crashes and servicibility problems (like that of the USN) they were deemed unsuitable for active service and no further aircraft were acquired (a purchase of 450 A/C was planned). One A/C (JW119) went to the RAF for evaluation. The Helldivers were not returned to the USA but were scrapped in the UK.
