Kris, the P-40L was not the same. The Packard Merlin engine was used but there are differences. Look at the picture on this page and compare it to the P-40L. The gear fold back and not inward. The vertical stabilizer is different too...

Looks like a rehashed P-40. For Curtiss as an aircraft company, the end was near.
