Warren Joy (Ret USAF) Sun Valley, NV | I worked on the GOONEY for 12 yrs as an engine mech, the only thing I didn't care for was the #8 cylinder change, it was really messy, but I still LOVE her. james midkiff Winston Salem, NC | The poem about the Gooney Bird was in either the Airman magazine or the Air Force Times newspaper in the late 60's or early 70's, I think The Air Force Times, and it was written by a man who'd been a crew chief for many years on C47s as I recall. One line I always remember is "While men get old and then retire, and jets get obsolete, the Gooney Bird flies on and on at 11,000 feet." 07/29/2012 @ 17:59 [ref: 64372] |
