The ERA-3 N# 162TB is one of a series of aircraft flown by Thunderbird Avn Pheonix AZ. N#160 and 161 were used for many test operations including Radar intercept testing of the B-2. I was the only Civilian trained crew chief all the rest were navy trained. We recieved the very last ones in Operation they were retired and flown directly to us at Deer Valley airport Pheonix.
It was a sad day when the business was closed because of poor management.

The ERA-3B was NOT used for reconnaissance. It was used at an aggressor asset to simulate Soviet tactical electronic warfare capabilities.

Flew the ERA-3B from November, 1979 to July, 1982. During that time I had 3 fires in flight, 7 emergency field arrested landings and 13 other delcared airborne emergencies. Would love to do it all over agin.
