Suprised to see no comment that this particular R4D-5 BuNo 12418 assigned to VX-6, the "Que Sera Sera", was in fact the first aircraft to land at the South Pole with Navy pilot LCDR Gus Shinn at the controls. Happen to have this aircraft in my logbook having flown it a number of times during DeepFreez III ('57 to '58).
