I served with HC-2 and HC-5. Worked on H2's and UH-34's.Was on USS Shangr La with HC2 and deployed to vietnam as aircrewman in 1970. Looking for anyone aboard the Shangri La at that time. Remember good times in Rio twice. Really liked the H2 C, they were new at that time.

I am still trying to find contact info. on Dave Wiczek. He served on the Bonhomme Richard with my dad Jerry VanLandingham with HC-1 68-69. I know this may not be the proper forum to post this, but this is the only place I've found any information on him. Thank you all for your service, and thanks for the help. Merrick 850-501-6350

I was station in Imperial Beach with HC5 (HSL31) and I was TAD to base airframes shop, from 1970 to 1973. I worked on a lot of the hydraulics in the UH-2C. It was some of the best times of my life. We worked hard and the people were great. The Helo was amazing!

I was stationed at imperial beach. I made three west-pac's on the happy Hannah ( USS Hancock CVA 19 ) The years were 1965 66 & 67 . Discharged in December of 1976. I have a lot of memories of HC-1 and the great liberty ports we visitied.

Assigned to HC-1 Imperial Beach early 1967 and left upon discharge in the Summer of 1968. Flew rescue aircrew in H-2s (A&B) and was also aircrew on the Sikorsky RH-3A Minehunting/Sweeping helo.

Re-enlisted in October of the same year and was sent to HC-2 Lakehurst. Made the 1970 FDR (CVA-42) Med-cruise, one rescue on a downed A-6, February, 1970.

The H-2 was a cool helo, one of the best times of my life.

Regards,

Bob Schultz

I was in HC-1 from 1968 to 1971, UH2-C, WestPac on the Kitty Hawk in 69 and the Oriskany in 70. During the Kitty Hawk Cruise Pat Golden, one of our metal Smiths was doing a preflight, and kept hearing a pinging noises. It turned out the rivits were popping right out of the Transmission deck. That was another reason they kept crashing, hard to fly when your blades and transmishion tear off at 2,000 ft. They grounded all the aircraft and a bunch of us flew the COD into Subic Bay and as each carrier pulled in, they unloaded their UH2-C's and took 3 we had reinforced the whole upper area and repaired. Since I was an AT the other guys did most of the work, they even repainted them, I just ordered all new racks and face plates and replaced as much as I could of electronic stuff. Anybody ever get back to San Diego, go aboard the Midway musuem, they have a nice UH-2 sitting on the deck.
Seemed like about the time everyone got the bugs worked out they replaced them with H-3's.
By the way anyone remeber Denny Burgi, we still email each other almost every day. Luft

I was assigned to HC-1 in 1966. At that time the squadron was flying UH2-A/B. In 1967 the UH2-C's started arriving. After training on the UH2-C, I was assigned to the first detachment taking the UH2-C's to the Tonkin Gulf on the the USS Ranger. We departed San Francisco November 1967 arriving in the Tonkin Gulf the last part of November or the first part of December. About December 16, 1967, I think I may have had the honor of being aboard the first UH2-C that crashed at sea. Pulled out of the water by a UH2-B. Want to thank the fellow members of HC-1 that pulled us out of the water that day. If any remember the rescue that day, please let me know who you were.
