I was an Aviation Maintenance Administration petty officer with HS-4 discharged in August 1964. In early 1967, Winter and Spring months I was hired by the General Dynamics-Convair Service Center in San Diego based on my knowledge of Navy a/c and engine logs, records, instructions and changes etc., to bring a number of P2-Vs up to date for an electro-magnetic contermeasure mission flow by the Army. From the outside they looked like regular Navy Neptunes except they said Army not Navy. Inside was a different story.

Arrived with 144th Avn Co(RR) to Cam Ranh Bay in `71 from Nha Trang. Flew RU-8's, back seat 05HF3. Only time I flew in the P-2 was on a 3-day R&R to Subic Bay, PI. Nice beaches at Cam Ranh. Anyone remember when sapper attack on Air Force side on ammo dump?? Was there when still had Navy Personnel running the Mess Hall. Left in Dec. `71. Best wishes to all.

Served as a pilot with the 1st RR from June 1969 to June 1970. Long missions but a great experience. Couldn't ask for a better place to be in RVN that NAF Cam Ranh either. Hank, I remember you well and also Bart, I know your father as well. We served both of our tours in VN together.

Jeff I was there from Jan 68 to Jan 69. Flew as a 05H and as a communicatior. When not flying I was night OPS. Took a detachment of new 05H to Phu Bai for training around Jun 69 (not sure of date). When I made my 5 I also had to do courier duty. I would like to here from anyone that was there.

Just happen upon the site and saw the note from Howard Sobel. I was there at the same time and shared some of the hard pretzels from what I remembered as your grandmothers care packages with you. I was the flight ops ncoic there and then traveled to El Paso near the stand down period with what was supposed to be the Crazy Cat replacement company. The 1st Aviation Electronic Warfare Company, known as Cefirm Leader.

I was a crew chief at Nha Trang in the 144th between Mar 69 & June '70 with a short stint at An Khe with a detachment from Nha Trang. Later, Asst Line Chief with 13? RU 8D's in Nha Trang. I had heard we had "a" P2V up in Cam Rhan Bay but never saw any and didn't know we had 6 of them. Does anyone know anything about the Caribou's. I think they were out of CRB as well. Anywhere else? Along with my fixed wing mos (67b20), I also volunteered for Huey Crew Chief (67N20) but was told we got rid of them before I got to Nam. I now find that is not true. Any further info on the Hueys or there mission? "D" models? size of crew? Crew Chief with one other door gunner plus Pilot/CoPilot along with one or two operators? Kinda crowded with the equipment??? I have a hard copy of my RU8D taken from a photo I took with an old Yashica Electro 35. Actually pretty good quality but can't see my tail number. Email me and I'll see if I can put something together.

Was at 1st in 70-71. Went back to 224th (worked in S1)in 72-73. When left was able to get some of the accident photos (think from 69) or so from CRB when plane went off the runway. Also got a large watercolor of the Crazy Cat that i now have hanging on my wall. Also have the 4 CD set of the History of the Crazy Cats called "Cats Paw" made by Frank Ford (former Crazy Cat). I donated many of the pics used in the creation.
