I was a "first wave" 553rd Recon Wing, April 1967. Arrived a week after 551st EC-121 accident. We had not received our "R" models yet. Comm/Nav staffing was later downsized before the PCS to Korat and I transferred to 551st. Loved the cape. Met up with 553rd at Korat later.

I was an EWO on the C-121R in the 554th Recon Squadron, Korat Thailand, Batcat, Dec 1968-Dec 1969. Flew 102 missions safely for 1050 flight hours. Enjoyed the many friends we met during the tour.

Had a 1/2 tour on Batcats in 1969, got in about 24 missions and then was sent up to Udorn to finish my tour on EC-130 ABCCC. Only real 'in-flight' emergency I had to deal with was on an EC-121R.....3 turning 1 burning as we would say. Great bunch of guys - but sadly too many names up on the wall. Always proud to be a Batcat-er

I was reported to Otis AFB, MA and the 554th Recon Squadron of the 553rd Recon Wing in early April 1967, one of the very first navigators assigned to this new organization. The memories of the ensuing 20 months are fresh, intense, and bring a real joy to me. An amazing cast of characters . . . a few truly brilliant and amazing, most just plain and simply good people just trying to get along and do their job, and a few totally absorbed in themselves and their perceived importance in the whole scheme of things . . .a representative sample of life in the military at that time, and society in general.

My salute to all of you I knew and spent that time with . . .God bless you and yours, and I wish you well, and thank you for being a part of my life experiences.

Was crew cheif on AC 479 Korat Thailand from Aug 69-70.
Flew 479 to IRAN inspection site in Lake City Florida, April 70. Aircraft was piloted by Capt.Downey. Had a great trip with a crew of great guys. Had a nice stop over in Hawaii on the way back to Korat to repair a hydraulic transmitter. It took a week for the parts to arrive from Korat!
