Great demand for a modern, high-speed photo reconnaissance aircraft resulted in nearly a third of the P-38E fighter production authorized in contract AC-15646 to be completed to F-4-1-LO specs (41-2098/2099, 41-2121/2156, 41-2158/2171, 41-2220). These 99 planes were completed between March and Aug. 1942. The 100th plane from this block -- 41-2157 -- was completed in July as the only F-5A-2-LO.

A GREAT site for information on the F-4 version of the P-38 is www.34thprs.org. This unit, the 34th photo recon squadron, flew out of England and France during the war, and Pilot Allan Keith flew the famous pre-D-day recon missions over the beaches of Normandy, providing Ike with the most up to date photos of German positions. Without the weight of canons and armament, the f-4 was the fastest plane in the European Theatre, until the Germans unveiled the ME262 jet. My dad was a replacement pilot in this unit. Please visit the site, it's great.

And the Portuguese quote says something like "The most beutiful airplane that ever existed." I concur.

Yo man, shoot the French and buy a statue of Pol Pot and ban any other language but English and spare your few neurons; only would be better to find out b4 the martians come and explore ya knowledge that 'da' language of the message that spiked your incomprehension is p o r t u g h e s e (meaning it is spoken in Portugal-in Europe, East of USA, in Brazil, South America, South of USA and a few other countries like Angola - this is not in Europe but in Africa and Goa, which is not in America, but in Asia.

So keep the good job
