The P2V-7LP / LP-2J were NOT Photographic reconnaissance / Survey aircraft.

They were modified for use in Antarctica with
aluminum skis similar to those used on the P2V-2N, JATO bottle attachment points, a bomb-bay mounted fuel tank and other modifications for use in Antarctica.

Four P2V-7LPs were built.

Hello ,, My dad was one of the original crew members of the serial # 140436 P2V-7LP and i noticed someone mentiond it was the only surviving one from the 4 of deep freeze and that it was in a private collection. Would anyone possibly know who owns it ? My dad is very interested in seeing it again. his name was the last name painted on the cockpit side. His name is Joe Simkovich and he was in operation deep freeze II. Any information you can Provide will be greatly appriciated. E mail me at wfs@hiwaay.net
