Hello, I purchased a metal model of the Shooting Star fighter plane recently. The lady told me it had belonged to her uncle, who had flown one of the first planes late in World War 2. She thought it was in 1944 or early 1945 in Okinawa. She had been told these small models were given to early pilots. I would like your comments on this if you have any. The model stands about 7 inches tall including the base. The plane is only about 4 by 5 inches. It looks like polished aluminum. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank You,
Lloyd

Very few people know this, but the test pilot of this plane was WWII ace Richard Bong, who flew P-38s in the Pacific. He also died in this plane on the same day as one of the first a-bombs fell on Horoshima, Japan (Aug 8, 1945).
