The museum is housed in a World War II German POW
barracks that was in a POW camp near
Macomb, Illinois called Camp Ellis. The contents
of the HIF Museum include memorabilia
and artifacts from all of the military conflicts
dating back to World War I. On display
are mementos donated by veterans and those on the
home front. The rotating beacon at the
Logan County Airport (3LC) was part of the lighted
airway system route from St. Louis to
Chicago. This was the route that Charles
Lindbergh flew as an airmail pilot.
