http://www.msichicago.org/ I am including a link to the museum. This is a "must see" if you are ever in the area. They have a captured German submarine.

I just visited the museum this last weekend. They have lowered the Stuka and have the axles sitting on blocks on the floor. It is roped off. They lowered the Spitfire while I was there. Apparently they are going to do a minor restoration to the Stuka, not sure about the Spit. Perfect timing to see these two great planes up close. The new U-505 display is awesome and is worth the trip alone. It must be seen.

In 1950, I was 9, and I wanted to get in the Spitfire. I hid until the museum closed and came out from hiding. I looked for a ladder to drop across to the wing to give me access to the plane. A guard caught me and threw me out. He probably savrd my life too. I just loved that museum.

A world class museum by itself, the transportation section is a site to see. The 727 is a great display, and the historical aircraft are too awesome to put into words. Display includes one the world's two surviving JU-87 Stukas.

this is one of the top museums period...if you know your airplanes-for a novice its hard to figure out what's what-but each aircraft is in fantastic shape and well displayed

I just visited the Museum of Science and industry last week. The Spitfire and Stuka are well displayed and in wonderful condition. The 727 is surrounded by walkways that let you almost touch it all around. I liked the vintage aircraft, but they were not labeled or described well (unless the information was in an obscure place). There is little or no room for more aircraft. It was a shame I could not find out what some of the very old ones were called.

The Museum of Science and Indsustry is very interesting, not just its aircraft, but also its other displays such as the U-505. The museum has an interesting exhibit of a Boeing 727 that hangs from the ceiling. The museum also had a good Titanic exhibit that was on tour. -Mike
