Was in Middlesboro to visit with "now EX"husband D.Monte, in 2004. Tommy Shaddok (Sp) took us to see Glacier Girl and I was very impressed with all the history. Where is she now? Tommy also took us to top of Cumberland Mt. and told us the history of the Civil War there. Wish I had his address and I would send another thank you note, as a genealogy person the history came in very handy in research of my family. Thanks -Rae R.

I was in the back yard doing some garden work when I hear a different sounding aircraft leaving the Lufkin, Texas airport that is right behind my house. I looked up and saw this beautiful P38 just above the trees. So I went to the airport to inquire about it. An employee there told me it was Glacier Girl. I was so disappointed that I missed seeing it on the ground. If only I had known it was there. I would have loved to have been able to at least touch it. I used to watch P38's practice dogfighting over the farm in Pennsylvania when I was a kid.

I am looking for any information and especially pictures of Bill Taylor who flew in/out of the Middlesboro airport for years....40's,50's and 60's. He also was a flight instruction and taught many to fly. He taught a lady named Evelyn Johnson to fly who later became a famous pilot. Any information would be greatly appreiated.

WW II - picture of a plane that looks like it is landed on its belly; however, the front view shows the nose resting on a kind of cement block. There are four engines with propellers that are rounded or curled backward. I can read the model number of the wing - can anyone tell me how I find out the history of the plane. My father was in Greenland after 1944.

This is a follow up fromt the last time i sent a comment. This year i watched the one thing I loved "Glacier Girl" leave. The one who owned it now sold it. It left Middlesboro, KY. on June 21,2007 flying on it original mission Bolero which they called Bolero 2. It will porbably come bacl every once and a while, but the #1 tourist attraction and thing i loved is gone.

Have followed the story from the beginning and loved it all. Thanks for a great experience both listening to the run ups of the engines and then the flight a few weeks later. Marvelous! One brother flew in B-24s and another was crew chief on P-51s so I grew up in the wwII era. Sorry to see Glacier Girl leave Middlesboro and will miss my visits to see her and take friends.

I remember when B-24's would fly over Knoxville Tn. on their way to their staging for their flight over seas.I guess my love for flying really took hold of me then. I joined the CAP and went to nashville for training. I guess that the B-24 and P38 was my favorite plane.Years I got my pilot's license and still love it. I have been to Middlesbour several times(ever time my plane need an annual) and talked to Bob, and watched the restoration of the Girl, when it flew for the first time I was there, It brought tears, and a feeling that is hard to describe. I just want to tell all the crew that restored that beatiful aircraft that with all my heart, and I am sure that there are others, you made my day. THANKS Roy ,Bob and all.
