The Federal Aircraft Factory C-3605 is a turboprop conversion of the wartime Swiss designed, built, and operated C-3603 heavy Hghter/attack aircraft. 152 Hispano-Suiza piston powered aircraft were built in 1942. They served the Swiss Air Force as border patrol and emergency paradrop aircraft during the war and operated with attack squadrons until 1953, when they began a career as target tugs. In 1968 a turboprop conversion was made to extend its service life. The Lycoming powered prototype first flew on 19 August 1968. Twenty-three conversions towed targets for the Scheizersche Flugwaffe until 1987.

The Planes of Fame C-3605 was built under license from the Federal Aircraft Factory at Emmens by the Swiss Dornier AG at Altenrhein. Post war it was converted to tow targets at night. These conversions were given the nickname "Schlepp-Leucht" because of their neon lights and reflective paint jobs. It was converted to Lycoming turboprop power and served the Zielfliegerkorps for the Flugwaffe and the Fliegerabwehrwaffe until retired in 1987. Referred to as the "Alpine Anteater," the C-3603/3605 series served the Swiss Air force for over forty years.
