Benjamin W. Hines Taylorsville, North Carolina | In REFERENCE TO COMMENT MADE BY REF-4764, THE NAMED PERSON WAS NOT ON THE CREW OF EIGHT, THAT PLACE B47E 51-2120 WHERE IT IS ON STATIC DISPLAY TODAY,October 19, 2011. This was done in May 1976, just prior to the Change of Command of the 351st Strategic Missile Wing Commander from Colonel William Kottas to Colonel Clifford Cork. The names of those eight, are in a time capsule, now in the cockpit of said Bomber47E. Names were initially painted on the inside of the right forward wheel well door, but later painted over, which was a disapointment to those who placed 2120 at its final resting place, there at Whiteman. Ben Hines, Former Senior Enlisted Advisor 351SMW, CMSgt. Now Retired. 10/19/2011 @ 06:37 [ref: 25378] |

Frank Bruni Port Angeles,, Washington | I check this site from time to time and I see that it has been visited several times since my initial posting a couple of years back. Curiosity got the best of me this past fall when on my way home I stopped for a day or so at Whiteman. With B2 being the dominate aircraft there I did expect to see a different base, and I was not disappointed. To start with every building that most of us knew, lived and worked in, gone, save maybe three or four of them. The post chapel, the swimming pool and the ball field behind it and the big hanger are all that are left. I think the steam plant has been modified as the old pipes are now gone. The new PDXS and Commissary are now part of a court yard shopping complex. As for our modern day counterparts, they live in the lap of luxury and as I understand it, eat better. The B47 that was once the Knob Noster gate guard, now sits behind where the NCO club was located. The two lane hiway to Sedalia, now a freeway. Warrensburg all grown up and Knob Noster, well, time sort of stood still. The cafe is now a chinese resturant, the infamous bank a store of some sort and the road that leads to what was the Knob Noster gate, wider and the trees are gone. That gate is open during the week days only. The main gate comes in from the Warrensburg side. The Missouri ANG is now becoming a major player in the B2 program and the A10s are flown by the AFR guys and gals. If any of you have a hankering and or curiosity like me to see this place many years later, the hotel is excellent, and inexpensive, and the trip down memory lane, worth it.

Frank Bruni Port Angeles,, Washington | In looking at a web site some time ago regarding the final disposition of B-47s, good old Tripple Nickle went to B47 heaven. Landing gear issues were not the only problem that thing had. I remember it flew sort of funny, had a tendancy to land one wing low and took forever to get off the ground. All these years later, I believe that airplane was possessed. 02/08/2007 @ 12:28 [ref: 5604] |
