My apologies for the typing mistakes. I notice that more and more as I get older. Hi to Dave Thomas. I don't know if you were aware that Chief MSgt Don Seaman died a few years ago in Kentucky.

My assignment to Griffins was in April 1968 as a Personnel Officer. We were assigned to 86th Air Division, at Rammstein previous to this assignment, where my wife had a massive stroke, which left her quite sensitive to the cold. I asked for this assignment, which was her hometown, to see how she could handle the weather. She did fine with snowmobile suit heated socks and mittens traveling on our Ski Doo Bombardier north of Lake Delta where we purchased our first home on Mullin Hill Rd, overlooking the lake and the city and in the spring we could see the lights from Vernon Downs. The assignment was good. I became the Chief of the CBPO and just prior to my retirement in 1972, I was the Chief of Personnel. Although my hometown was from further east in the Mohawk Valley at Amsterdam, I had been assigned to Lowry AFB early in my career as a radar mechanic/technician, so having had a taste of Colorado, this has become our retirement home. We don't really miss the humidity of my home state, but we had a good assignment at Griffins and many meals at the Savoy.

I WAS STATIONED AT GRIFFISS FROM APRIL 1973 TO APRIL 1976 AS A SECURITY POLICEMAN. GREAT MEMORIES OF FRIENDSHIPS MADE, GREAT TIMES EATING DOWNTOWN. SAW A LOT OF MEMORABLE CONCERTS IN NEARBY SYRACUSE. IT SEEMED AS COLD THERE IN THE WINTER AS IT WAS AT MY FIRST DUTY STATION IN KING SALMON, ALASKA....BUT THE TIMES I HAD THERE WERE WORTH IT. I VISITED THE BASE WITH MY KIDS IN 1999 AFTER IT WAS DECOMMISSIONED TO SHOW THEM THE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS WHERE I WAS POSTED. AS I SAID, HAPPY MEMORIES.

I was stationed from 1969 to 1973 at Griffiss AFB. Served in the 416th AMMS, working with and maintaining the AGM28 Hound Dog missile. Later I was assigned to the ADM 20C Quail missile also at Griffiss, both with the B52G models. I made many good friends at Griffiss and am attending reunions of the 416th AMMS, meeting them again. I was there when a 52 went off the end of the runway on landing. It took several months to remove the 52 from its muddy location. I learned a great deal of electronics and navigation while here. I am surely in debt to the men and women at Griffiss and with the 416th AMMS, and bomber wing.

I was at the Griff 73 - 77 as an avionics systems specialist. I spent my whole time there after basic and Chanute, except for temp assignments. I generally enjoyed my time there but not the weather so much. Nice area, good people and memories. The hero shop mentioned in Rome might have been Big Daddy's, great subs.
