Not a bad show, not the best either. Lots of down time when aircraft could have been flying, but when you have to open the airspace for the surrounding airports(such as San Jose), it's to be expected. Wall of fire blew out hundreds of windows on base as well as quite a few in the surrounding Mountain View - Sunnyvale area, so no WOF on Sunday. Took lots of picks including some from the top tail of the C-5, enjoy! Tyson http://www.tvrphotography.com/Aviation.htm

Oh yeah, and let me add a note about parking. It REALLy wasn't that bad. I exited the highway at the Moffet Blvd exit (the same road that goes into the airshow, which was closed, but going out from the airshow, and that direction was open), drove past the $10 "Preferred airshow parking" lots and parked less than a block after the last "preferred" spot. From there, it was a 10 minute walk to the base gates, 5 min to buy tickets, and another 10 minutes to walk through the base to the airshow. So all you people who complain about parking and say it took an hour and a half to get TO the aishow from your cars, well, you shouldn't have played the AirshowNetwork's little game. Then again, a lot of you say that airshow parking was well organized, so to me it seems you can't lose either way. I just figured that no matter how far I had to drive down Moffett Blvd to go past the airshow parking on the Moffet exit, it must still be closer than driving 4 miles down the highway to the next exit.

I liked the airshow a lot. I'm from Brazil, where airshows are few, far between, and generally pretty lame. The open C-5, the 747, the 6 or 7 warbirds, the SuperHornet demo, the A-10 demo... Any one of these is more than one would ever see in Brazil. But I've lived here long enough now to go to Oshkosh, Pt Mugu, Rhinebeck, SanFrancisco Fleet Week (yeah Blues!) and to know what a REAL airshow is, and I think this one fits. There were a lot of rare, one-of-a-kind NASA planes on ground display (as well as the mandatory F-15 and F-16), and that was really, really exciting to me. And the air displays were good too, I mean, there were 3 aerobatics acts (one in a Stearman and two in state-of-the-art aerobatic planes), two heritage flights, three fighter demos (if you count the A-10) and that thorough, detailed demo at the end involving FOUR aircraft and all the different stages of a rescue mission - how of ten do you see THAT? So, OK, it was no Oshkosh, it was no Edwards, and it wasn't free (what's up with THAT?) but it wasn't bad at all. Plenty of adrenaline. (Oh, yeah, I have pictures and other info up at http:www.stanford.edu/~malfita/moffett

The airshow at Moffett was the weakest I've ever seen. An F-18 Hornet and an A-10 Warthog were the only serious military jets flown. No MIGs, no F-16s, no Blue Angels. Even the Snowbirds didn't show up as originally planned. The Wall of Fire appeared on Saturday, but so what. Lots of people left early.

Well ... this airshow was "better" than last year with more airplanes to look at. It was hot and sunny and there was "no place" to sit down if you didn't bring a chair (unlike the Watsonville airshow where they lay out hay bales for people to sit on. It took 1 1/2 hours via VTA/Long walk to get in. and a little more to get out ( $4. day pass) I miss the "light experimental aircraft" and lightplanes that used to attend in large quantities. The military aircraft were excellent as were all of the performers (mig 21 fly by ???) richard

The headliner, "Wall of Fire", was missing and no explanation was given. All in all pretty well organized, and well paced. Flightline Club was pretty good - real flush toilets and running water-wow! The VIP preferred parking was a nice touch. The food was above average.

Thanks Stephanie. My father was stationed there twice. It sure was news to me that it is in Alameda County, having lived there, myself at one time. It IS in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, CA.
