Tyson V. Rininger tvrphoto@earthlink.net Monterey, California | Though for me, the show started differently than most. I was able to board the USS Boxer in San Diego and ride the ship into the Bay to kick off Fleet Week on Saturday. It took a few hours to moore the ship just south of the Bay Bridge while the show went on. This offered some pretty unique views of the show including, well...a sinking boat of all things. Went back to the show on Sunday for the aerial portion. For images of the cruise onboard the Boxer as well as Fleet Week, check out http://www.tvrphotography.com/Aviation.htm 12/09/2002 @ 14:15 |
liammccarthy Lmccarthy4@eircom.net newmarket co cork Ireland., California | having been to see the airshow (both days) it was well worth the journey of approx 6,ooo miles. Keith Salminen San Leandro, California | Yeah, thats what they always do. The flight leader will send #5 off from the Delta Formation to check out the area to see if its safe to do the show. This year is the 1st time I recall seeing them fly the show with the Golden Gate covered in fog. I didn't go today though, so how was the weather like today for the show? Must have been good since I saw them do the Delta Loop Break cuz they didn't do it yesterday. 10/13/2002 @ 18:27 |
pimp , California | did i see one of the angels actually drag his wing in the water? 10/12/2002 @ 22:55 |
Mike Noriega , California | Cliff,
When weather changed between briefing time and show time, it's common for one of the opposing solos to go off and take a few runs on the show and see if the visual aids are acceptable as compared to minimums. After he reported his finds to the CO, he then rejoined the formation and the show went on.

Cliff San Francisco, California | Does anyone know what the blue angels were doing today at the very beginning of the show? One of the planes broke off and made two or three passes before it seemed like the actual show started. Do you think that they were scouting out the course to make sure that the fog would not be an issue. The Golden Gate and Alcatraz were fairly fogged in. I am sure that those are two big landmarks for them. Any ideas on how to find out details?

JohnnyBoy , California | Ok, the official site does state that the airshow starts at 12 noon and the Angels are scheduled for 3 (weather permitting)... and its gonna be a nice day. I will be watchng the whole airshow from Treasure Island, since I come from the eastbay and am one of those "have to drive types".
Just get off on treasure island and drive to the west shore, great view of the whole thing and the Blue Angels do alot of setups and slow and low flybys right over yer head, then hop in the car and your gone long before the peeps in sf can get back to their parking spots. 10/12/2002 @ 06:57 |
