About three years ago, the F-102A aircraft was moved inside of the base and was somewhat visible. Recently, I heard that the aircraft developed some severe corrosion damage that caused the landing gear to collapse and this led the base to scrap the entire aircraft. I am sad about this as it was there in front of the base for over three decades. I am glad that I have photos after it was repainted the last time. 12/23/2013 @ 16:43 [ref: 55558]

The F-102A aircraft at the gate has recently been repainted and looks good. You are allowed to take pictures but they must be taken facing towards the base. Parking can be done on the side of the street but there are NO PARKING SIGNS everywhere so you can only stop for a few minutes. 04/20/2007 @ 10:41 [ref: 5852]

I was the last pilot to fly the F-102 positioned at the front gate at the NY ANG in Westhampton Beach, NY. While in the pattern for landing, there was an electrical fire that progressed into a hydraulic fire illuminating the FIRE light in the cockpit. I was fortunate enough to get it on the runway. The internal damage was too great, so 788 became a static display at the front gate. 03/10/2006 @ 15:06 [ref: 4871]
