I have seen military Aeronca L-16 Grasshoppers with an identification number starting with "LH" on the side, What does that mean. Those letters are followed by the last 3 numbers of the serial number of the aircraft.
You can see an example of what I am asking if you download this picture.

I am in need of price information on an L-16. The one I have been looking at is on the gear in a dry building. It has not been in the air for about 40 years. The airplane has a 90hp engine and is in need of a total rebuild. It's 100% military and you can even see the US Army markings on it. If the information I have is correct it has had two owners after it's military time. The logs tell me it has about 2000hrs and it's covered with cotton.
What would be a good offer on this airplane? Anybody got any ideas? Let me know. Thanks

I have one of the L-16B's that I took orientation flights in as a CAP Cadet in West Virginia in the early 1950's. It is restored to its San Marcos AFB configuration where it was based prior to its CAP assignment. It is S/N 48-472, N3956A and the 50th of 100 B models built 7CCM-50). It has won best L-Bird and preservation awards at Sun n Fun.

I have an Aeronca L 16B serial # 48-507 N2527B which was owned by the CAP in Texas (Tyler?) in the 1950's/early 60's. It is in civilian Champ configuration now. I am researching its Air Corp/CAP history and wonder if anyone out there ever flew it or knows anything about its history. Thanks, John

I remember flying in Civil Air Patrol L-16s back in the 60's and 70's. Are there any left out there in the "War Bug" circuit? I would consider a partnership in operating one!
