We've just gotten an L3B in our stable and are looking for photos or drawings of a "historically correct" instrument panel. We want to rebuild the panel so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Landings!

My partner and I restored an 1942 L-3B in 1966 and flew it up and down the west coast. It won many awards as best liaison plane in the 1969 & 1970 Merced Antique Fly-in and others here in Washington. I believe that it was one of the first L plane restoration in the U.S. Registration was N49496. It was destroyed in a mid-air collision in 1970. I am dismayed to see so many incorrectly painted and marked liaison planes that are flying around now. The main error is to paint the lower surfaces O.D. when they were specified to be painted medium grey per WW2 spec. T.O.1-1-1. Some have European invasion stripes on them , WRONG. They didn't participate in the invasion. One example has a big mess of a mixture of pre-war red ball star combined with the bars that came in long after . Then it has a yellow tail with Coast Guard stripes AND the undersurfaces are O.D. Nothing but a cartoon.

I still have the basket case Aeronca TC; have had it sand blasted with plastic shot, and will need to replace many tubes. Right wing will probably need new spars. ****my e-mail was changed soon after my first note, and I may have missed some mail from someone, so if you sent me a note, and I did not respond, please write me again! Thank you! Well HERE is my NEW e-mail: stephenkent@live.com !!!
