Aeronca L-3E 'Grasshopper'
|
Geoff Burkart Atlanta, GA | I was the proud owner of an L3E in the 70's.
It was a great airplne to fly, would turn on a dime and was forgiving when you needed it. You could also get it into, and out of, just about anywhere!
An engine upgrade to 75/85hp is a valuable add.

Just for quick refence, the L-3E was the Army designation for the pre-war Aeronca model TAC-65, of which 12 were commandeered by military. The TAC-65 was nearly identical to the L-3B/C models, except for gross weight and rear seat solo. 02/29/2004 @ 21:25 [ref: 6877] |
Tad Prewitt Fayetteville, NC | I rebuilt an L-3E in 1992 that I had bought in 1976 and flown until the rebuild. I will try to locate some pictures of it and post them.
I sold the plane to a flight instructor out of Raleigh, NC. It was later sold ot a guy in Texas. I have tried to contact him to see if I could buy it back but have never gotten a response. That was one of those mistakes yuou always regret.
The L-3 dwas the easiest and most fun planes to fly I have ever been involved with. Beats a Cub hands down.
