In 1956 through 1957 I was a plane captain on a HUL-1. At the time I was stationed with Helicopter Squadron HS-11 Homeported at Quonset Pt. R.I. We had extended legs for our landing skids and hard points on the belly for carrying and launching 2 mark 43 torpedoes to be used in Anti Submarine Warfare, and we went to sea with these birds on the destroyers Hazlewood and Uss J.P. Jones, DD932. My Helicopter recieved substantial damage from heavy seas off of Cape Hateras NC While tied down on the fan tail of the ship. We did not have any landing platform or hanger in them days. After Repairs at O&R Jacksonville Florida, the bird was destroyed in a collision with one of my squadrons Sikorsky HSS-1 Helos. just thought you might like to know.
