H T Whitehurst , NC | B-52A, serial number 52-001, was used at Chanute AFB as a trainer for many years. As a teenager, my friends and I would climb inside the aircraft on Sunday afternoons - it was parked outside. A few years later, it was put under the torch and burned and used as a live fire exercise for Air Force students attending USAF fire school at Chanute.
However, one of the original XB-47s is still display at the Otave Chanute Museum in Rantoul, Il. 10/18/2006 @ 16:37 [ref: 14503] |

William Crammatte Seattle, WA | Is the B-52A that we trained on at Chanute still there? It was the first B-52 Accepted into the Air Force inventory. There was also a B-52B outside the hangar that we used for power on training. I found on another website that the B-58 is still thare and on display. 08/13/2001 @ 22:23 [ref: 2914] |
