Boeing GB-52D 'Stratofortress'
|
William Caster Portland, IN | I was in the Air Force from Dec.67 to Dec.71, spending most of 1971 at U-tapao, Thiland. Jan.71 I was assigned
as Crew Chief for B52-D 56-0626 until May 71 when she went back to the states, paint very faded and worn I would asume from many years of wear. I was then assigned as Crew Chief to a B52-D just over from the states with a brand new paint job, 55-0679 and I was with her until I was discharged in Dec.71. I flew with her to Anderson in Aug. 71 for a modification to the Gunners canopy, as I remember, so it would eject off with the guns
if the Gunner needed to get out. Of course not wasting the trip, we droped a bomb load on the way. I would assume sence she quit flying in 1975, that the paint on her today is the same paint put on in early 1971. Its nice to know she survived and is on display for people to see for years to come. 11/03/2011 @ 14:58 [ref: 49955] |
