Ronn Smith , TX | Don't see anything listed at Octave Chanute Museum at the old Chanute AFB, IL. They have quite a collection there including a KC-97 and a B47. 04/30/2001 @ 03:47 [ref: 2173] |
Nick Panasenko , IL | The KC-97 is not an 'E' model it's an 'L' StratoTanker and
not a Stratofrieghter. The example that is on display at
Grissom AFB, IN., was assigned to the 126th ARW, IL ANG,
O'Hare International Airport, Chicago. I was a member of
that unit from May 74 until Jan 79. I was a crew chief
assigned to the flight line. Just a bit of history on
that plane, the left wing tip is not the original tip.
The original tip was shortened by about 6 inches during
a towing accident in April/1975 when we ran it into a
fork lift. I was part of the crew that did it(long story).
