The RC-135A "Shiran Crew" picture shown here was taken at Santiago, Chile in 1970 and is a picture of my crew. We were selected for the first operational deployment to a Aerial Survey Team and joined Bill Kinghorn's AST 10 in Brazilia, Brazil. Our orders were cut for 40 days and we departed Forbes AFB on 10 March 70. I can identify some crew members in the 1st row: 4th from left-Curt Ailiff (Nav), 5th from left-Carol Wilson(Nav), 6th from left-Don Robinson(AC), 7th from left-Jay Delaney(Nav) and last man on right- Joe Brown (Bell Aerosystems Tech Rep). The film cans in front represent one good day's work mapping the Andes at 38,000 - 40,000 feet. Chilean officials are inter-mixed with the eleven crewmembers.

I was crew chief on 8061 when it was the 2nd Air Force commanders plane at Barksdale. I think that was 73-74. When we got it we put in a galley. airline seats, beds(for long trips), and an electric operated hyd. pump on the cargo door. The camera compartment just behind the cockpit was my little get away spot. I had two beds and lockers full of extra parts and equipment down there. When Gen. Keck became Vice CINC SAC they took the plane to Offuit. I had the chance to go with it but turned it down. I have a lot of good memories from the preflights and trips we took on her. Including sleeping on the wing at Hickman. But that's another story. I have one of the 2nd Air Force dinner plates that we used on the plane. I'll always treasure it.

Turner AFB, was my first permanent duty station out of Tech school in 1966/67. I came in there with a group of other one stripers to work on the "new" c-135's we were getting. And we were going to have a lot more to work on when we got to Forbes AFB,KS. I stayed at Forbes until August of 1968 when I was reassigned to the 7th Air Commando Sq., Ramstein AFB,Germany. It would be great to hear from any of the guys we worked under and learned from. That was when a buck sergeant was GOD, right Pete Porter?? ha ha. Email me if you wish at Jackrun1@aol.com.

I spent 4yrs working hydraulics/in flight refueling boom on the 135's at Grissom in the mid 80's with two tours to Panama. Had a great time all the way around. The crazy Red head in the hydraulic shop.

I was a crew chief on 63-8058 at Grissom in the 80's until it let for alaska! It was a great jet to work on!! I have many good memories of preflights at 2am!! I have been trying to find out where the 4 jets are located, It seems funny that I have tracked them done to the Kansas ANG at Forbes Field!!! from what i can tell they DO have TF-33's but are still classified as KC-135D's
I have some pictures of 8058 from when it was at grissom I just need to get them scanned onto my computer, then I will upload them here!!!
