In 1964 I had the privelege of flying on the VC-97 of the commanding officer of the 8th Air Force at March Field, Ca.
A group of 22 "leaders" from El Paso were invited to fly from Biggs Field to the Air Force base at Denver, Co to visit a Minuteman Silo. As we were returning to Biggs I was invited up into the cockpit where the Captain asked if I would like to call my wife. He explained they had single side band (?) communications which would allow them to communicate to almost any place in the world. At 24,000 feet and over Pueblo, Co I spoke with my wife and gave her my eta for Biggs and the time she would need to pick me up from the Officers Club. I still have several pictures of this experience 40 years ago. 01/14/2005 @ 00:24 [ref: 9138]
