J Whalen , MA | The photo I downloaded of the XC-108A was scanned from the book THE B-17 FLYING FORTRESS STORY by Roger A. Freeman. The photo is credited to Boeing Aircraft so I will assume that the conversion was done by Boeing for the AAF. Can anyone clarify this? As Jim Doran states in his note this was the only B-17 to get the cargo door officially. Other B-17's modified were done so after the war as civil transports. 12/25/2001 @ 00:55 [ref: 3895] |
Jim Doran Woodstock, IL | The XC-108A LIVES. The only aircraft to carry this designation was B-17E 41-2595. The aircraft is currently under restoration in McHenry County, IL and will be featured on Veterans for Veterans a local AT&T Cable TV show in McHenry.
Copies of the tape of the show may be purchased from me and all proceeds from the sales will be turned over to the restoration team. 04/25/2001 @ 10:05 [ref: 2153] |
