ralph waters oklahoma city, OK | When I was a tower controller at Campbell AFB, Ky. in 1952,
the Army had a couple of Cessna LC-126 aircraft based there, belonging to the 11th Airborne Div. at the Adjacent
Fort Campbell. One day I was invited to go along on a local
flight (the Air Force and Army Aviation people had a cordial relationship) in what I considered to be a Cessna
195. From the tower, we always observed with interest the
"castor-wheel" effects of the cross-wind landing gear on this aircraft. The ride that day was no exception. As we taxied out, and later on the landing rollout, we "crabbed"
our way along, allowing an excellent forward view from the back seat of a "tail-dragger". Not bad. I thought it would be a nice personal aircraft, and still do.
