To Gerald L. Bessler: I believe the Harold Lewis that was part of the crew you're asking about was a relative of mine on my Mother's side. When I was a kid I remember hearing he had been held prisoner by the Germans, with a connection to him having been held and/or transported in a railroad car. I believe he was a POW for about 4 months.
His experience in the war didn't take away his amiable nature, and I recall him as a kind, friendly man.
He has long since passed away. RIP "Uncle Lute"

My Grandfather was Sgt Jesse Bradburnand was shot down 17 Feb 1944. I am doing a major project on his adventures for my senior thesis. He picked up his new B-24h at Hamilton field. I saw that over half of the B-24 h were made at Willow Run. Any way to confirm?

I'm seeking information about B-24H bomber Serial #42-52286, 15TH Air Force, 454 Bomb Group, 747 Squadron. Based @ Stornara Field. This bomber was flown by my cousin 2nd Lt. Harry W Bessler. It was lost on 17 Feb. 1944 near Grottaferrata, Italy after being hit by flak and enemy aircraft.

The folowing persons survivied the crash;

2 - Millman, Joseph, Sgt., Serial No. 32222070

3 - Thomas, Harold L., T/Sgt., Serial No.37138003
Top Turret Gunner

4 - Lewis, Harold, G., Sgt.,Serial No.11122503

I would appreciate hearing anything about this plane or crew.

My father was a Pathfinder Navigator with the 392nd BG, 579th Sq and flew on more than a dozen B-24 aircraft between Sep '44 and Jun '45. I'm looking for a photo of a B-24H #51150 "I Walk Alone" I am building several scale models of B-24's and want to make decals to match some of the planes my father flew on.

For Ed Thomas:

My dad was a navigator on the "Bottom's Up". Your uncle's name/story rings a very small bell. While my dad has long passed, he told me about one "fine character" who became a POW and had to take extra measures to assure the Germans did not become aware of his last name.

Was my dad referring to your uncle?
