The XB-46 was most definately a Convair/consolodated project. My father, William C Keller was the chief design engineer for the XB-46. Unfortunately, they only built 1, as the war had ended at the completion of the project.

You\\\'re reference to \\\" Tornado\\\" as the nickname for the xb-46 is complete news to me. Are you sure you are not confused with the North American B-45 Tornado?

My Dad, Max "Jim" Breitenbach, a structures engineer, worked on the design team for the XB-46, the first attempt at building a jet bomber. He worked on the structural design of the wing. He says that they couldn't calculate the stresses on swept wings yet, so they designed a straight wing.

He also says that the workers who drilled the rivet holes had trouble, and ended up with elliptical holes. So many of the flush rivets used on this aircraft had to be hand filed to fit.
