Jack E. Cormack Normantown, WV, WV | The(XS-1) prototype was first flown in 1917, with a kinner three (3) cylinder (65) HP radial. It (the prototype was first flown with wheels as a land plane,for testing. floats were added, that year, and plans were drawn for the submersable hanger, that was to house the plane on board a submarine. the 65 HP was replaced with a 5 cyclinder due to the increase drag of the floats.
