The photos posted are of the Bell X-2 and have nothing to do with the Cox Klemin XS-2.
(BTW Riverton is in Western Australia, Australia, not in Tennessee.)

The(XS-1) prototype was first flown in 1917, with a kinner three (3) cylinder (65) HP radial. It (the prototype was first flown with wheels as a land plane, for testing. floats were added, that year, and plans were drawn for the submersable hanger, that was to house the plane on board a submarine. the 65 HP was replaced with a 5 cyclinder due to the increase drag of the floats. question.......everyone knows chuck yeager was the first to break the sound barrier and live to tell the story...however,his aircraft was dropped out of another at about 20,000 feet.........what was the first aircraft/pilot to take off, break the sound barrier, and land safely?
