Jos Heyman , TN | In 1945 a single C 46G with serial 44 78945 was converted with a turboprop engine in the starboard nacelle for flight testing and was redesignated as XC 113. The difference in engine power and characteristics made the aircraft unmanageable and the programme ended with a ground accident soon after the test programme began in October 1946. Some reference sources suggest that the aircraft was never flown whilst others state that it was flown until 1948. This confusion is probably due to the redesignation as ZXC 113 on 11 June 1948, when the aircraft was restored from its mixed engine configuration to a conventional C 46G configuration and was sold to a civilian operator. 12/08/2011 @ 01:40 [ref: 51046] |
