The previous post calls this aircraft on of the best fighters Curtiss built. That may be true. Unfortunatly, its performanse and armament fell short of that of the competion such as the P-38, P-47,and P-51. At 355 mph, it wasn't much faster than the P-40! In fact, even equipped for carrier ops, the F4U and F6F were superior. 01/25/2006 @ 16:00 [ref: 12302] |
Aaron F. Robinson Wilmington, NC | The Curtiss XP-46 Was one of the best Curtiss Fighters of WWII although it was not sucessful and never put into production. 09/25/2004 @ 22:32 [ref: 8342] |
Aaron F. Robinson Wilmington, NC | The Curtiss XP-46 was one of the best Curtiss Fighters of WWII but was not sucsessful and never put into production,so the USAAF Decided to order the Dversion of the Warhawk instead. 09/25/2004 @ 22:30 [ref: 8341] |
Ben McCallister Manchester, DE | This is certainly an interesting design, and at 355mph at 12'000 feet with a climb rate of 2'460 feet per minute would have made for a good aircraft. While all sources say that the aircraft was armed with two 50.cal machine guns, they differ on whether the number of 30.cal machine guns was four or eight, could someone please clear this up for me. 01/03/2002 @ 05:23 [ref: 3968] |
