ANIGRAND makes a beautiful 1/72 scale resin model of this particular plane. This kit sell for roughly $50. Anigrand can be found on line under ANIGRAND MODELS.

The French company Mach has produced a model kit of the A2D scale 1:72. Mach is well known for the rough finish of their models, but is the only one of this intersting aircraft. In order to find the right colours for this modelI googled around and found this site
The Westland Wyvern was indeed a parallel development and suffered from the same problems. However it saw active service in 1956 in the Suez-crisis.

The DOUGLAS A2D-1 SKYSHARK sitting on the ramp at the Idaho Falls, ID Airport is in front of Pacific Fighters Hanger. They have finished restoring and are offering it for sale. They also have/had a couple of TBM Avengers and a Corsair.

YOu can see one of these if you are ever in Idaho Falls, ID. THere is an A2D parked outside a private hangar and the end of the airport next to the interstate. I don't know if it flies and have never seen it moved.
Good hunting.

This is fascinating. I've always had an interest int he A2D and have read a bit about it. Until now I thought that only two airplanes were actually built. Were there actually several production aircraft completed?

I have to agree with JL. This was a particular interest to me as a young boy. Although the model is different it was actually a redesign of the A2D. The Wyvern model was, if my memory serves me right, used in some middle east wars. The metallurgy of the time, when the A2D was built, didn't have the durability as with our current aircraft. As with the A2D, the Wyvern model also had problems chiefly due to the contra-rotating force of the propellers. Torque specs may have played a major break-down for the Skyshark and the Wyvern.

Only the black & white photo is of the Douglas A2D Skyshark.
The picture of the model is of a Westland Wyvern.

The two photos of the A2D Skysharks are distinctly different.
The black and white photo is the original version of the Skyshark
and the color photos are models of the Westland Wyvern S.MK.4
by Dynavector. The color photo is accessible at
www.navismagazine.com/sample/musketeer/suezmodel1.htm
Histories are available through various search engines.
