In 1953 after being discharged from the Navy I applied for a job at Douglas Aircraft Co, in El Segundo, Ca. I was hired as an "Aircraft Assembler B" in the experimental dept fabricating little pieces and parts for the first XA4D-1 which sat just out-
side our little shop. One job I did was fabricate the instr-ment panel for that XA4D. Cut it out of a big piece of aluminm, filed it to shape, cut holes for the instruments,
switches, etc. Sent it thru inspection, passed, sent it to the paint shop, installed all the instruments, switches,
wiring harness, etc., sent it for inspection, passed, and it was installed with no problems. Or motto was "You have to be a Tiger to work on the A4D". Later I fabricated pieces and parts for the XF4D, XA3D and later in my second
job at Dougls I worked on all four of the F5D's, until that contract expired. I also woked at the F4D hanger where they delivered the Skyray's to the Navy. I also worked on the F4D production line at the Torrance plant. Our motto was "Hammer to shape, file to fit, and paint to match"
