Charles McDaniel, It appears you are the new owner of 136778, mudflap girl. aka, Rosebud as I new her. This was the last plane shot off of the USS Franklin D Roosevelt before her decommissioning, with me in it. I e-mailed Daniel Serrato for a while about stopping by to take a look at her but see you are the new owner. If I was in your area would a visit be possible? Thanks, Scott Davison

Wheelchair 7 was originally a VR-21 Detachment Japan plane flying out of Atsugi, Japan, Cubi Point PI and Danang. I flew in her several times in 1964 and 65. She was one of the newly refurbished planes with a new paint job and interior so we used her for VIP flights. All of our planes had call signs starting with "Wheelchair".

I owned 136791 with my friend Pete. It was also called Wheelchair 7. I really miss the sound of the 1820s rattling the hangar doors as it departed. Whats left of it sits in a 200' crater nestled in the trees. There was a mushroom cloud reported by pirep and there really wasn't anything left but part of the tail. Might buy another someday, but not for fuel hauling, although it performed that mission admirably well. There is no other airplane like the C1 and those who have been around them know exactly what I mean.

First off, it's not a "Douglas"----it's a Grumman. Secondly, when are you going to give me credit for the picture of 146048 that I uploaded here and you gave credit to someone in Rhode Island? The plane was in Souda Bay, Crete, and I personally took the picture. I have the original right here. Either fix it or delete the picture.

"I have BuNo 136778 "Mudflap Girl" would like to know if I can run the FEATHER PUMP with just the BAT on and the engine not running. Is this bad? I can not find anything in NATOPS.

Dan Serrato
CAPT FS USN"
Yes you can use the battery or APU. when we installed the prop in feather position we would use the pump to drive it out of feather. Do not continue to hold the button in the unfeather position. Pumps excessive oil in the engineo
