My Dad was an AM2 in VR-1 at PAX River from 1943-1945 and maintained the airframes of these aircraft. I still have the squadron newsletters from that time and a few great photos of the planes.

I was a member of the flight crew on Lieutenant General Glenn O. Barcus' VC-54E 44-9076 while assigned to the Northeast Air Command (NEAC) from 1954 until the command was discontinued in 1957. I have written a factual Ebook of my three years experiences flying across Newfoundland, Canada and Greenland. Go to Amazon.com/Kindle Store and look up my book titled,"The General And Me". Read a sample chapter then download the entire book for your Kindle reader or your computer.

We lost Dad last year, he was a 30 Naval Aviator, who flew 109 missions in the Berlin Airlift - can't seem to find much on this site regarding the airlift but I understand that the C-54E is what was flown. He believed that this effort was one of his best efforts due to the plight of the people of Berlin.
If there are areas of the site devoted to this, please let me know.
As we are looking thru his 'stuff' I may come across pictures that you may want.
He used to talk about barely clearing the buildings on approach, I was hoping to see some of those picture on your site.

I fly loadmaster duties & am one of the flightcrew members & mechanic on the BAHF C-54E named the "Spirit Of Freedom" from Toms River NJ. This proptransport was made buy Douglas Aircraft Co.back in March of 1945 & still is flying just beautiful today as SHE did back then. We do about 30 airshows a season with the C-54E & is a "Flying Museum"exibit with showcases & memorabilia inside about the history of the 1948/49 Berlin Airlift. At each airshow the aircraft is on display & the flightcrew meets the public & tells the story as a educational exibit."Keep the Big Pistons Flying"!
