Al Letcher owned and flew this Meteor N.F. 11 out of Mojave Airport California in the mid to late 70s. The airplane is now at the Edwards AFB museum. It also appeared in the two-part WONDER WOMAN TV show episode "The Feminum Mystique" as the super-secret XPJ-1 experimental jet fighter, in Nov 1976. The episode is on DVD; if you can get a copy of it, there are some beautiful scenes of this meteor in flight, and on the ground. Watch for a great shot of Al Letcher landing the Meteor right on the edge of the runway at Chino Airport in Ca. I mean, where the grass meets the blacktop!
My mother worked for Al Letcher in Lancaster Ca. at his coin mint. My family would go to Mojave on the weekends and watch Al fly this Meteor and his Vampire MK 3. Al offered to give me a ride in the Meteor, but my Mom would not allow it. I did however get a ride in Al's fantastic executive Lockheed Lodestar. Mojave was a magical place for an eleven-year-old plane-crazy kid like me. Thanks for the memories Al.
