Goodyear XAO-2 'Inflatoplane'
|
Dennis J. Myers Falling Waters, WV | I was an Airways Operations Specialist - General (AOS) for the CAA in 1959 at the Akron, Ohio Combined Station-Tower (AKR CS/T)& remember some vivid conversations with the Goodyear Test Pilot over Wingfoot Lakes on "guard channel". A very interesting tour. 07/30/2004 @ 11:37 [ref: 7940] |
aa Smithtown, NY | The inflatable surface of this aircraft is actually
sandwich of 2 rubber type material connected by
a mesh of nylon threads, i.e. forming a I beam.
It turns out that whenn nylon is exposed to air, it
absorbs/repel's water, it stiffens. giving the
aircraft its shape & rigidity.
I was told more material about the infatoplane would
found at the Good Year library at Akron, Ohio.

John Coeur d\\\' Alene, ID | Hello,
I researched the Goodyear inflatoplane years ago and talked with a man that worked on the project. I have a pretty good idea where the documentation is.
