Larry: That doesn't sound like a BG-1, at least there was nothing secret about it because it was an old second line plane by the late 1930s. If that story is true and it is a Great Lakes then it might be the XB2G-1 or XTBG-1 as the Navy was always nervous about their experimental airplanes. I'll see what I can find on BG-1 crashes.

I THINK I HAVE LOCATED A BG-1 THAT CRASHED ON MY GRANDFATHERS FARM IN THE LATE THIRTIES. I HAVE THE TAIL GEAR ASSEMBLY AND A STAINLESS STEEL AIR TEMP GUAGE PLATE THAT SAYS BU. AERO U.S.N SER. NO 487-36 MARK 1. I ALSO FOUND A STAINLESS STEEL BRACE ABOUT 7 FEET LONG THREADED ON ONE END. THE TOWNS PEOPLE SAID IT WAS TOP SECRET AND G-MEN CAME IN AND ROPED OFF THE AREA AND HAULED THE HULL OUT. CAN ANY ONE HELP ME RESEARCH THIS CRASH. 304-292-1745.

Shorty after completing boot training at Perris Island in early 1940 I was assigned to VMS-1 at Quantico, Virginia. They were flying the BG-1 aircraft. Had several interesting flights in the back seat. The first pilot I flew with was a Corporal. He had been promoted to PFC, the day he graduated from Flight School at Pensacola, Florida. He was a great pilot.Unfortunately he was lost at sea in a plane crash while flying SB2U-3' out of San Clemente Island, shortly adter December 7th.

My grandfather flew as a radio operator/backseater in the XBG-1 during the test program, and then operationally in the BG-1 with VB-3B. I would sure be interested in seeing those blueprints that you have, Tina.

Does anyone know if there any BG's still in existence? If so, where might one find one? Thanks.

I have Blueprint of the BG1 that my grandfather left me.
He worked for Great Lakes and Glen Martin during the 30's and 40's. I also have several other blueprints Great Lakes
VB Dive Bomber, Martin MB 2 Bomber and our prize blue print
B 29 Bomber. Were making them available ( Copies ) to Old

I am uploading a picture of the BG-1, taken at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY, date unknown.

My son and I have been researching the history of Floyd Bennett Field, and we have gathered a few pictures of Howard Hughes(record world flight, 1938), Wiley Post, and Amelia Earhart at the field.

If you happen to have any pictures of that airfeild, particularly from the 1930's and 1940's, I would appreciate copies.

Regards,
