RUFUS KERSH Poteau, OK | FROM AUGUST, 1963 TO MARCH, 1965 I WAS ASSIGNED TO COMPANY E, 725TH MAINTENANCE BATTALION OF SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, HAWAII. WHILE OUR HEADQUARTERS WAS ON SCHOFIELD OUR WORK STATION WAS WHEELER FIELD. COMPANY E WAS AN ARMY AVIATION MAINTENANCE GROUP AND ASSIGNED TO OUR COMPANY WERE OH-13, OH-23, UH-1A & B PLUS FIXED WING AIRCRAFT. THE HANGER NEXT TO US HAD TWO OV-1 AIRCRAFT ASSIGNED TO IT. A STORY I HEARD ABOUT THE OV-1 THAT HAPPENED NOT LONG BEFORE I ARRIVED WAS THAT ONE DAY WHILE DOING TOUCH AND GO'S ONE OF THE PILOTS IN AN OV-1 WAS LANDING AND WHEN ABOUT 20' FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY HE REVERSED THE PROPS AND SLAMMED THE OV-1 DOWN ON THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT WAS SHOOK UP AND THE AIRCRAFT DAMAGED AND HAD JUST BEEN REPAIRED NOT LONG BEFORE I ARRIVED. I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED THIS AIRCRAFT. 09/22/2007 @ 08:38 [ref: 17987] |
Dave Huzarewicz Severna Park, MD | I remember this a/c sitting on the PSP in PhuBai in 69-70 when I came down from Camp Eagle to fly night missions on the Birddogs. Never did take any pixs of it but I remember the guys being very quiet about its missions and capabilities. At the time it was "classified stuff" and I never pressed the questions because I knew better. 11/17/2006 @ 11:17 [ref: 14765] |
Ron Ratchford , CA | In the early 60's the AO-1 Mohawk was tested at Fort Greeley at the Artic Test Board in Alaska. The main pilot was at that time Major Love. All that was long ago and I had not thought of it for years until I happened to come across a picture of the craft on the web. 03/20/2006 @ 18:20 [ref: 12873] |

John L Smith Marietta, GA | 1) Can you direct me to some photographs on your website?
2) I should have a couple of photographs of the Mohawk
sitting on the PSP in Vung Tau, Vietnam between
5/68 and 5/69. I don't have a scanner, how would I get
them to you? 07/14/2000 @ 08:08 [ref: 440] |
