I was in VAQ-33 in 1968-1969 where we had two of these aircraft. It was my understanding that there were two on the east coast and two on the west coast. I was a qualified Electronics Countermeasures Plane Commander (ECPC) - fancy name for the pilot who was fully mission qualified. It was a heavy bird but served us well.

As a Petty Officer attached to VAW 13, NAS Alameda, CA, from
1965 through 1967, I earned my AirCrew wings in the EC-1A,
as Electronic Counter Measures Operator. The Squadron had
two of these aircraft at the time, often used for training
crews in ECM operation and tactics. VAW 13 was primarily
made up of Douglas AD-5Q (EA-1F) Skyraiders, in which I also
earned my wings. While on Detachments to NAS Cubi Point,
Philipines, we "Zappers" flew the "Spads" from carriers, on
station in the Gulf of Tonkin, on missions in support of
combat operations. VAW 13 was the "parent" Squadron of
todays VAQ 130, based at Whidbey Island, WA, flying EA-6B
aircraft.
