I must have been your replacement as I arrived in Chincoteague in the fall of 57 as an AT and worked on the
Panther, and later Cougar, drones.

1955 t0 1957 I worked as an AT3 at NAS Chincoteague. We had one F9F-2 that was used to train pilots to fly the Regulus1 missile. the aircraft had an external pod under the right wing which contained the electronics that alowed it to be flown like the missile. The pilot of course made the take off and landings. one of my jobs was to uncage the gyro located in the pod just prior to taxi out.
