Tom Emmert Cincinnati, OH | Note that the C-70 (UC-70) was an "impressment" designation for civilian Howard DGA-8 through DGA-15 series cabin aircraft. All the UC-70's were manufactured and delivered as civilian aircraft before WWII, but after Pearl Harbor, the War Department bought many of these aircraft from their owners for military use. It wasn't until the Army owned them that they were called UC-70's.
Many other aircraft types were similarly bought and identified about this time: UC-71, UC-72, UC-73, etc. 06/03/2000 @ 16:10 [ref: 265] |
