Bill Wagemaker Granby, CT | The HH43B original Air Force mission was Local Base Rescue. Equipment included a fire supression kit composed of a high pressure nitrogen sphere , A hundred feet of hose, dry chemicals in a tank , all contained on a skid equipped frame that was lifted by the helicopter to the fire scene. With the advent of Vietnam, these helicopters were involved in rescues of many combatants. More than f our thousand eight hundred were saved per Air Force data. Many of this model were used by foreign Governments as Part of the military assistance program . One ,in IRAN ,rescued seventeen soldiers from a mountain top, all in one trip. The lifting capacity is impressive. All were retired by the Air Force In 1975, many subsequently used by private companies for logging operations in the US and Canada. 03/27/2006 @ 13:06 [ref: 12939] |
