JOHN G MACALLA NEW BALTIMORE, MI | WHY DID EARLY P2V-5 (BU NO'S 127759 THRU 127758 ) HAVE SHORT NOSE BOW TURRETS ? WHILE LATER P2V-5'S( NO.'S 127759 AND UP ) HAD A LONGER BOW TURRET . IT SEEMS THAT ALL P2V-6'S HAD THE LONG NOSE BOW TURRETS FROM START OF PRODUCTION . I CAN SEE THAT , SINCE THE -6'S HAD A SMALLER UNDER FUSELAGE RADAR DOME AND IT MIGHT HAVE ALTERED THE CENTER OF GRAVITY LOCATION ,FORCING MORE FRONTAL WEIGHT TO BE ADDED TO RESTORE FLIGHT CHARACTERICS . I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS QUESTION ADDRESSED , NOR THAT OF WHEN THE THE VP SQUADRONS WERE REASSIGNED TO ASW WORK (DROPING THE BOW & TAIL TURRETS IN FAVOR OF OBSERVATION NOSE AND MAD TAIL )IN ANY REFERENCE WORKS ON P2V HISTORY . I GOT MY BUREAU NUMBER BREAKDOWN FROM THE NEPTUNE NAVAIR AIR MANUAL #01-75DA-2-1 . AND ALSO WHERE DID THE COMPLEX NOSE GEAR AND ITS STEERING CYLINDER ACTUATORS GO TO WHEN THE PRODUCTION OF THE -5 & -6 'S WAS CHANGED TO THE -7 10/03/2007 @ 09:04 [ref: 18087] |
